Enter a murky and fantastical world of mythical beings…
Internationally award-winning saxophonist and composer Tom Thorp returns to The Tung for a very special show album launch show with quintet ILUMETRIS and illustrator Steve Bridger. The Here, There be Monster’s UK Tour culminates in the release of their special edition live album on 15 January, an album recorded in The Tung Auditorium itself!
Take a journey through stories and characters from world mythology in this new multi-media exhibition show. ILUMETRIS perform their critically acclaimed album Here, There be Monsters… (AMP Records) in an exciting collaboration with illustrator and animator AllMighty Steve (aka Steve Bridger). Blending virtuosic jazz improvisation, complex grooves, spoken word and lyrical melody, Here, There be Monsters… tells timeless musical stories, through familiar characters.
In this immersive musical and visual exhibition show, ILUMETRIS perform with Bridger’s striking paintings, illustrations and animations, to transport listeners even deeper into the worlds of the minotaur, the majestic phoenix, clouds of destructive pixies, swooping dragons, vengeful giants and many more…
Tom is joined by internationally renowned trumpeter Neil Yates (Mike McGoldrick Ensemble, Robbie Williams, BBC Big Band); pianist Andy Stamatakis- Brown (Alice Zawadski, Hacienda Classical); bassist Grant Russell (formerly of Go-Go Penguin) and drummer John Arnesen (The Big Easy, Ancient Infinity Orchestra).
“Thorp is a dexterous player and an imaginative, original composer. His music and performances are sparkling jewels, that warrant serious attention” (Xpress Magazine)
