It’s 1962 and there’s a whole lotta shakin’ goin on in a backstreet beat cellar in Liverpool called the Cavern Club. This is Merseybeat, the sixties sound of Liverpool, from the depths of Number 10, Mathew Street. The ‘British Invasion’ starts here and during the next two years ‘Merseymania’ rules the world!

This vibrant and exciting show features the Cavern Club’s resident Merseybeat combo, The Shakers and their authentic ‘Maximum Merseybeat’ sound plus guest artists, Victoria Jones as Cilla Black and Neil Ainsby as Gerry Marsden with renowned Liverpool actor Paul Codman as compere/narrator. Featuring the Mersey beat boom hits, Cavern stompers and a shot of rhythm & blues (with just a little rock ’n’ roll on the side, just for good measure) from The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Searchers, Billy J Kramer, Swinging Blue Jeans, Cilla Black, The Big Three and many more. It’s the beat that’s hard to beat!

With this show, the beat goes on, as alive, raw and vital now as it was then, when the Mersey Sound ruled the world! Merseybeat was the key that opened the door for the worldwide British Invasion of 1964: The bedrock of the ‘swinging sixties’. Uniquely, all songs in the show were performed or recorded by Liverpool artists in the 60s and as such celebrates the city’s world-beating musical heritage. As our story unfolds, you will experience the birth of the beat at the Cavern Club right up to the Hit Parade ‘Merseymania’ years, when Liverpool established its formidable status as top of the pops!
