Early Music as Education's (EMAE) Liverpool String Academy joins forces with Thelma Handy, leader of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, for an exquisite performance of music from leading Baroque composers including Vivaldi, Corelli, Lully, Handel and a rare performance of Schreivogel’s concerto for solo violin and strings. This performance, one of the only live UK performances in modern times, is made possible through a new edition specially made for EMAE by Professor Michael Talbot.
Thelma Handy was appointed Joint Leader of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007 and has directed the orchestra and appeared as soloist on many occasions. She regularly plays in Ensemble 10:10, with whom she has premiered numerous new works and made several recordings, leading the group in performances nationwide. Previously, she toured worldwide and worked extensively with renowned orchestras around the world. She is Artistic Director of Wirral Chamber Music Festival, which she co-founded in 2020. In 2017 Thelma was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Liverpool.
