Mahan Esfahani harpsichord

Part of the Yoko Ono Lennon Lunchtime Concert Series

Mahan Esfahani has redefined the harpsichord’s role in classical music through bold programming, new commissions, and international performances.

He’s the first and only harpsichordist named a BBC New Generation Artist and was the youngest recipient to receive the Wigmore Medal in 2022.

Esfahani has appeared at major venues worldwide, including Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House and Wigmore Hall, and has collaborated with top orchestras and conductors. Particularly renowned for his championing of contemporary music, his richly-varied discography includes critically-acclaimed recordings for Hyperion and Deutsche Grammophon – garnering one Gramophone award, two BBC Music Magazine Awards, a Diapason d’Or and ‘Choc de Classica’ in France.

In this lunchtime lecture recital, Mahan will talk engagingly about some of his favourite pieces from Book II of Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, illustrated with examples at the keyboard.
