Lucy Armstrong Saxophone Concerto
Bruckner Symphony No. 4 in E-flat major, ‘Romantic’
Liverpool Mozart Orchestra
Gillian Blair saxophone
Robin Wallington Conductor

Returning for its residency in The Tung Auditorium under the baton of its new Chief Conductor, Robin Wallington, the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra begins its concert with the first performance outside of London of the new saxophone concerto by Lucy Armstrong, performed by its dedicatee Gillian Blair.

Lucy is an inventive and versatile composer and as well as a solo saxophone this concerto features an audience percussion part!

In its 73 year history the LMO has never performed a Bruckner symphony, however to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the great symphonist they are expanding their normal forces to play his monumental Fourth Symphony. Lush romantic writing is interspersed with some of the biggest musical climaxes you will ever hear, with the brass section of the orchestra getting a particularly vigorous workout!
