Vivaldi dedicated his Opus 9 to Emperor Charles VI — a striking gesture likening the Emperor to Apollo, the god of music and sun, whose ancient attribute ‘the lyre’ was a gift from Mercury. The lyre eventually gave way to more modern instruments, such as the violin: Vivaldi was one of the greatest violinists of his day.

Celebrating the 300th anniversary of ‘La Cetra’, Adrian Chandler returns to Merseyside to perform Vivaldi’s violin concertos with La Serenissima – the group that’s been “Whipping up a storm with Vivaldi” (The Telegraph) since 1994.

This performance is not likely to be suitable for children under 5 due to the acoustics in the auditorium. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Under-10’s are not permitted to sit on the balconies.

Food and hot drinks are not permitted in The Tung Auditorium.

The Fröhlich Café Bar is open for drinks 90 minutes prior to the start of each performance and during the interval.
