Created and led by GRAMMY award-winner Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Desert Slide stands out as one of the most accomplished and revered ensembles of Indian Classical and Rajasthani folk music.

Bhatt, a distinguished disciple of Ravi Shankar, descends from a 300-year-old lineage dedicated to Indian Classical Music. Invited to perform in over 80 countries, he is renowned for creating the Mohan Veena, a unique instrument born from the modification of a western guitar with the addition of several drone and sympathetic strings which Pt. Bhatt plays on his lap to achieve the sustained, sliding notes reminescent of the vocal nuances in Indian classical music. His delicate yet fiery style and ground breaking innovations firmly establish him as one of the most influential artist in the genre. Having been a successful recording artist since the 1970s, Bhatt gained worldwide acclaim with a Grammy for Best World Music Album in 1994. With a career spanning five decades, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt remains celebrated as one of the world's most versatile and expressive slide players.

The group comprises five other exceptional musicians, and the captivating ensemble’s unique blend of instruments creates a harmonious fusion that beautifully intertwines Rajasthani Manganyar folk and Indian Classical music. The soaring tones of the Mohan Veena intertwine with inspirational singing, mellifluous melodies of the kamancheh and ecstatic rhythms of tabla and dholak. A meeting of masters inspired by the vast expanses of the Thar desert. Not to be missed.
