Led by violinist Thelma Handy, the Orchestra showcase five bright, vibrant and perfectly playful pieces.
There’s Bach’s lively Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and the irresistible romance of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, as well as rarer gems from the likes of Marianna Martines – a big name in 18th century Vienna whose work is not nearly performed enough today. Meanwhile, in his last ever performance with the Orchestra, Jonathan Small delivers a masterclass on the oboe d’amore – the oboe’s softer and more reclusive cousin – via works by Bach and Dittersdorf.
